With virtual meetings taking center stage, it is mandatory to ensure each meeting is conducted efficiently, covers all agenda points, and achieves the goal that prompted to set the meeting in the first place. While keeping it enjoyable!
This intervention gamifies the process and keeps it engaging. Different roles are assigned to the attendees during the meeting. Every meeting the roles will change. Hence everyone gets a chance to experiment different roles assigned in the meeting.
Each participant gets an opportunity to practice a specific set of leadership skills while still contributing as per their usual capacity. This allows participants to experience and see the meeting from the perspective of the role given to them.
Initially, this could be challenging as participants develop these new skills as part of the process while at the same time contributing normally the meeting. An example using the role – Chairman illustrates how the process will work.
John, for example, is the risk specialist for company X and his portfolio is risk management. At the first meeting he is also given the role of Chairman. He will be handed the Chairman card. The card will have specific descriptors on it.
It is John’s task for this meeting to contribute normally as the risk manager as well as take on the role of Chairman by managing time, monitoring, observing, encouraging and reducing as set out in the card. By the end of the meeting, John would have developed and practiced some Chairman skills. At the next meeting John could continue with the delegated role of Chairman or select another of the key meeting roles.
Exciting way to learn new skills, sympathize with other people’s roles in the meeting, conduct more efficient meetings while keeping it fun.
Your coach will walk you through the methodology and answer any of your questions. You may chose to request your coach to attend one of your meetings and give you feedback on how to conduct your meetings more efficiently. Have a look at the several options you can chose from.
