Why is this Important
Digital Change and/or Transformation is ultimately a Business and Organisation led initiative, facilitated by adoption and exploitation of existing and/or new technologies.
The scope of Digital Change can differ from organisation to organisation, industry to industry, team to team etc.
The underlying strategic drivers for any organisation will usually include one leading value discipline:
- Offering (Product) Leadership
- Operational Excellence
- Stakeholder intimacy (Often focused on the Customer)
In addition, many organisations have now added another strategic goal to build Organisation Digital Capabilities to address Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity (VUCA), in effect building Agility and Innovation Leadership to respond to and exploit changes in their environment. Central to this type of strategy is data, analytics and automation.
Tactical Drivers and Challenges for any organisation will be answering the questions?
- Where in our business and operations can we contribute to our strategic aims by the use of technologies?
- How will this change how we operate and work? And what do we need to do to be ready?
- What Capabilities do we need to achieve our Digital aims and objectives?
- What technologies are most appropriate? How do we select & Deploy?
Building the organisations Digital Capability Maturity positions the organisation to answer these questions.
Research indicates that the majority of Organisations have insufficient Capabilities to successfully Change and Transform. This is further re-enforced by the persistent high failure rates (70%+) of change initiatives to achieve their original objectives. Research also indicates there is a premium to be gained by achieving higher levels of maturity.
This is why the adoption and use of Capability Maturity Frameworks such as OrgCMF™ is an important addition to your Digital Change and/or Transformation tool kit.
